It Starts With One
The Starfish Story
An old man was walking on the beach one morning after a storm. In the distance, he could see someone moving like a dancer. As he came closer, he saw that it was a young woman picking up starfish and gently throwing them into the ocean. The old man asked “why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”
“The sun is up and the tide is going out and if I do not throw them in they will die.” She said
“But young lady, do you not realize that there are many miles of beach and thousands of starfish? You cannot possibly make a difference?”
The young women listened politely then bent down; picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea.
“It made a difference for that one.” She smiled
At the Arkontaky Law Group, we make a difference
one child at a time
"The Starfish story has a special significance for the members of our team. There are so many families that need legal assistance and advocacy services and the journey may be overwhelming at times. We hear all the time why do you focus on individual cases instead of class actions or policy work? We ask ourselves questions like is this just an uphill or losing battle? Are we making a dent? However, when we look back and reflect on our work with individual families, we can honestly say our work made a difference in almost each and every case we have worked on. This is the important mantra we live by. For that one child and family, yes we have made a difference....one case and one child at a time" ~ Adrienne Arkontaky, Founder/Owner
